Your Timeline to Success

Summary: This page outlines the steps required and the time it takes to become a manager of an AMB branch (although requirements and the time it takes will vary from state to state). These steps are only suggestions. You can undertake several steps at one time if you are in a hurry.

"After ages of planning it took Charles Lindbergh less than 34 hours to secure a place in history as the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. You, too, should be prepared to make a swift decision after evaluating your options."

Step 1 - Understanding Our Agreement

Obtain a copy of our password protected Bonus Agreement. We suggest that you print the Agreement and take a highlighter to it. Make sure that you read it thoroughly. It is not a contract and there is no non-compete provision. The Bonus Agreement simply sets forth the rules of our relationship and outlines additional compensation you can expect in running your branches. Everyone signs the same Bonus Agreement and when changes are made, anyone has the right to request that we execute a new Agreement that replaces the original one. Go to our Professionals page to request a current copy of our Bonus Agreement.

Step 2 - Picking Your Name and Choosing a Bank

We recommend that you immediately start thinking about the name you want to use since we encourage every manager to privately brand their branch ("DBA"). Getting a name can take up several weeks, depending on the state. Check with our State Licensing page for directions on how to register a DBA with your state. Remember, it is your responsibility to choose, register and comply with all state naming requirements. You might consider sending us a copy of what you propose to register before applying for your DBA. We will require you to reregister if we do not approve of your name or if you made mistakes in the initial registration process.

It is important to remember that your branch will most likely have an AMB segregated branch checking account and that you are empowered to make deposits and probably write checks. We understand that our bank of choice is not necessarily the one most convenient to your proposed location. Although we can be somewhat flexible, our primary state bank is definitely the one we prefer to use.

Step 3 - Get Your Questions Answered

Set a time to review your questions regarding our Bonus Agreement with us. While we will not change the Agreement solely for you, we may provide a letter of intent addressing your concerns. Be prepared if you call by listing all of the issues you want to discuss. You are welcome to e-mail your questions to us. We want you to make an informed, well educated decision regarding your future. A good decision is one that we can both live with for an extended time!

Step 4 - Make a Decision

It is now time to call the play; pass, run or punt. We hope you will decide to continue with AMB and you can begin the enrollment process at our Branch Setup page. When complete you will be directed to our Employee Application page. The finishing touches of your application include your references, personal licenses and past employers. It will take a few days to verify your references upon receipt of your application. You cannot purport to be an employee of AMB until you have received a Welcome Aboard Letter signed by a senior level executive officer.

If you have decided against joining AMB, we ask that you destroy all of the information you have collected and move on.

Total Time Invested... 10 Days or Less (and it's all downhill from here)

Step 5 - Setting Up Office

We allow you great flexibility in setting up your office; you may operate from your home or from commercial office space. You should have started researching office space if you want to go that route. Don't worry if you have rented office space or secured other business assets prior to opening your office. We all want to abide by HUD's requirement that AMB pay for the expenses of your branch. Therefore, you will need to explain to your landlord that you need to execute a sublet of your space to AMB to conform with HUD's requirements (or those of a particular state). AMB will prepare the sublet agreement and it must be signed by the lessor, lessee and by AMB.

Total Time Invested... About Two Wonderful Weeks

You can now relax knowing that you made a wise decision to engage the services of AMB, an organization dedicated to helping you succeed.

We should have your fictitious name back from your state by now (depending on when you filed it). We are probably ready to submit an application for your branch license. You should allow for at least a couple of weeks before we get your license issued. In most cases, you can originate loans through another office until your branch is approved by the state licensing authorities.

Do not conduct business from an unlicensed facility that needs a license. You may commence doing business only when your license is received.
